Wayve Secures $1.5 Billion Funding Boost for Autonomous Driving Expansion

London-based autonomous driving company Wayve has raised $1.5 billion in a Series D funding round, achieving a post-money valuation of $8.6 billion. The investment, led by Eclipse, Balderton and SoftBank Vision Fund 2, brings the startup's total funding to $2.8 billion and supports commercial rollout of its mapless, end-to-end AI platform[1][4][5][7].

Funding Details and Investors

The Series D round includes participation from existing investors Microsoft, NVIDIA and Uber, alongside new backers such as Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Stellantis, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, Baillie Gifford and others. Wayve CEO Alex Kendall stated, “With $1.5 billion secured, we are building for a total addressable market that spans every vehicle that moves.” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella noted, “Wayve is pushing the frontier of embodied AI for autonomous driving, and Azure supports the scale, reliability, and safety needed”[1]. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa added, “Wayve’s embodied-AI approach... aligns well with Stellantis’ platform-driven strategy”[1].

Commercial Deployment Plans

Funding will accelerate deployment of Wayve’s unified AI platform for L2+ hands-off to L3/L4 eyes-off driving across vehicles and markets. Commercial robotaxi trials with Uber are set for 2026 in London and more than 10 markets. From 2027, passenger vehicles equipped with Wayve’s AI Driver will launch, starting with Nissan, offering hands-off steering, navigation and traffic response under supervision[1][6]. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said, “We are very proud to continue to deepen our partnership with Wayve”[1].

UK Government Support

UK Business Secretary Peter Kyle described the investment as “a big vote of confidence in the UK and in the future of our auto industry.” Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander stated, “Wayve is pushing the boundaries of innovation right here in the UK, and this £1.5bn investment will cement the UK as a powerhouse for the next generation of transport”[1]. The funding aligns with UK efforts to enable driverless technology trials on public roads later this year[1].
