This Military Base in the Middle of Nowhere Has Over 12,000 Active-Duty Personnel

If you’ve been watching the news recently, you’ve more than likely seen reports of drones flying across the East Coast. These drones, many of which are said to be extremely large in size, have been spotted in various states and near different government or political installations. This has caused widespread panic that the drones could be a result of foreign militaries attempting to gain power or control over U.S. knowledge. But while these sightings are nervewracking, drone surveillance has also become increasingly commonplace near U.S. military bases. USA Today reports that hundreds, if not thousands, of drone incursions have been seen above military installations — yet the Pentagon has been hesitant to simply shoot down the drones to identify where they’re coming from. The issue, one military official said, is that “spy drones could collect sensitive information on U.S. military activities that could tip off adversaries to future deployments.” Given growing global tensions, addressing this issue sooner rather than later is a necessity. (What is the future of military guns and weaponry?) This is especially true considering the importance of American military installations for national security, both within and beyond our country’s borders. All American states are home to at least one military base, and 750 military bases exist globally. While America isn’t rushing to build any new military bases on a national scale, there have been a limited number built in the last 75 years. These highlight the evolving needs of our country. So let’s protect them, right? To identify America’s newest military bases constructed since 1950, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed and independently verified the history of active military installations listed on MilitaryBases.com. Bases were ordered by the year they opened, from least to most recently opened. The number of active-duty personnel assigned to each base came from the 2022 Demographics Report, compiled by Defense Department contractor Military OneSource., as well as additional base-specific information from Military OneSource. Finally, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed specific unit information from each base on the below list via the base website. Installations with less than 1,000 active duty personnel where that data is classified or those outside the 50 states were not considered. Newly joined bases were also not included. Why We’re Covering Military Bases The placement of military installations across the United States reveals how our defense priorities shift and adjust in real time. More than reshaping our focus on national security, military installations affect the economy on national and statewide levels. Nationally, defense spending creates job opportunities across a range of industries. Locally, military outposts often employ civilians, increase residents, and encourage spending on locally made goods. At 24/7 Wall St., we’re covering the newest military bases to help you understand how a new military installation could affect your wealth. Check out the newest American military installations in the United States: 11.
